Best Time to Take FRCS Orth Exam – Is a Break Good?

Becoming a doctor and being able to practice it, are two different aspects. There are many who are very good doctors but unable to practice or consult on their own. FRCS Orth Exam gives you the accreditation needed to become a practicing doctor. Most Orthopadic exam questions are not theoretical and are more likely to test your actual clinical and practical knowledge as well as experience.

Many would think that the best time to take FRCS Orth Exam would be to take it when you are ready. However being ready for anything is just a myth. Infact you should take the exam as soon as you become eligible for it, that is after gaining required experience and clearing qualifying exams.

However if you thought that you would  take a break of a couple of years or more  before appearing for the exam then chances are FRCS exam preparation will become difficult for you or it might just remain as your procrastination. As time will pass your memory is likely to make space for new memories and it will also be difficult to revisit topics which are there in theory but not so commonly used in practice.

Best thing to do here is to keep preparing for the exam as you gain residency experience. And then appear for it when you fell you have sufficiently prepared for your FRCS exam.
